Some of you might be wondering why we are not wondering around our usual Rocky Mountains somewhere a bit more local. Well this is one of those bucket adventures that we have been saving our money up for for several years. And it is also Kathi's 50 birthday year...Hmmm one little catch was I had foot surgery in January. They surgery is a one year recovery period. Yep, nothing like a little pressure of being mobile! No worries we bought trip insurance and set logical goals along the way.
So a bucket list adventure was imagined, investigated, and created. We decided that we wanted to see the alps and do everything that we might want to do while we were in the Alps. We invested in a guided tour with REI to walk around Mont Blanc thinking that would really enrich our European adventure. We also wanted to also see the Bernese Alps, as they are suppose to be amazing. We put together an adventure by reading books and the internet deciding what was a must see in the Bernese area. Along the way we wanted to eat all sorts of chocolate, cheese, local cuisine and other little local speciality along the way. We wanted to experience the Alps.
There was many emails back and forth with Kay and By. (One of the virtual hikers friends, who have followed Kathi and my adventures, and have experience with travel in Europe.) I owe them a great thank you for all of the pointers on train travel, where to buy chocolate, packing light, power converters, and how to not look like a tourist. I also owe them a thank you for taking pictures of all of those French pastries that are sooooooo deviously delicious. My best pointer is: if you need to watch your weight, don't even start eating those pastries, as you will eat three of them and be looking for a dozen more.
One last thing I want to mention is over on the right hand side of this blog site you will see a followers Join this site. If you become a follower of this site, then when ever I post something to the site, you will receive an email with the link. It will make it much easier to follow along on the big adventure.
Enjoy.
Oh yes, and sing Happy Birthday to Kathi
